- Information
Ze-Chyou Syuu (Zecchoushuu), is a 3CD single set released by Shiina Ringo. Each disc features three tracks performed by a different band that Shiina Ringo formed for live performances from 1999 until 2000. All of the songs are new, except for the Gyakutai Glikogen version of Onaji Yoru (a song from Shiina's debut album Muzai Moratorium). The songs were released in this 3CD-set method as a loophole in order to fill out contractual obligations (as artists are usually contracted to release a set number of singles/albums before their contract runs out). Discs 1 and 3 feature live recordings, whereas disc 2 was recorded in studio.
Due to its size/price, it was categorised as an album on Oricon charts. Ze-Chyou Syuu reached #1 on Oricon charts and charted for nine weeks. It sold a total of 429,560 units in Japan, making it the #49 album of 2000.
Disc 1's band, Gyakutai Glikogen, were formed for Shiina's Gekokujyo Xstasy (下剋上エクスタシー) tour. Yattsuke Shigoto was used as a promotional song from this release. It featured a PV where Shiina performs onstage as if it were a real live (where it is, in fact, staged). All three songs also feature a studio version: Yattsuke Shigoto was later released as Yattsuke Shigoto ~Daimyou Asibi-hen~ on Kalk Samen Kuri no Hana, Gamble was placed onto Heisei Fuuzoku and Onaji Yoru was a song originally from Muzai Moratorium.
Disc 2's band, Tensai Praeparat, were formed for Shiina's Manayabi Ecstasy (学舎エクスタシー) tour in 1999, where Shiina performed at four universities. This disc's songs are studio recordings, as the live recordings from this tour were unsatisfactory to Shiina.
Disc 3's band, Hatsuiku Status, were formed to perform on Shiina's secret live tour, Hatsuiku Status Gokiritsu Japon (which was later released to DVD 3 months later). Fukurande Kichatta and Hai Hai did not make it onto this DVD however. The sound source for these recordings were left as-is, to create a raw live band feeling to them.
Track #3 of Gyakutai Glikogen and track #3 of Tensai Praeparat are written in mojibake (random characters). In the lyrics booklet the third song of Tensai Praeparat is called 喪 興瑠怒 (ソー コールド), which is a transliteration of So Cold in English.
