Yabu Kouta entered Johnny's Entertainment on September 23rd, 2001 along with his band mate, Inoo Kei. He was put in the group Ya-Ya-yah where he remained the lead singer as well as the member with the most face time. In September, Yabu was put into the group Hey! Say! JUMP, after which Ya-Ya-yah was disbanded. Yabu is also part of the subgroup Hey! Say! BEST, which consists of the five older members of Hey! Say! JUMP.
He was the leader of the Johnny's Juniors, but with his debut with Hey! Say! JUMP, it is unknown whether he still remains to be the junior leader.
