Both were models and began modelling in Hong Kong. They caught the attention of EEG manager Mani. Mani stated that it was fate that helped her select the two singers out of a catalog of thousands of potential young candidates. They auditioned for and later formed the duo known as Twins.

After the duo formed, Twins debuted in the summer of 2001. To promote themselves and make themselves well-known, many MSN pages and web games featuredthem. Their first EP, which was self-titled "Twins", went platinum in its first week of sales according to the ICPI charts. During their first two years, Twins released 3 mini-albums and 3 albums, all of which sold very well. Most of their songs reach and stayed at #1 of many different musical charts for several weeks, most notably JSG and ICPI. They were quickly dubbed as the "New Spice Girls" of Asia. At that time their music was in a very dance-influenced bubblegum pop style targeted for teenagers, which is also comparable to the Spice Girls.

Between 2001 and 2003, they received 72 awards, a remarkable achievement for Twins. By 2003, they have received a large number of awards from the four major Hong Kong media organizations of RTHK, Commercial Radio Hong Kong, MetroRadio and TVB.
