"THE POWER SOURCE" is the fourth album released by JUDY AND MARY. Leading up to the album three very successful singles were released: Sobakasu was the most successful, reaching #1 and selling over a million copies. The other two singles did well as well, "Classic" (selling over 600k) and "Kujira 12gou" (selling over 400k). The song "LOVELY BABY" was later released as an album-cut single.
The majority of the song's on the album were written by TAKUYA. Only four of the tracks were composed by Onda Yoshihito.
The album reached #1 on the Oricon chart, which was a first for the band. It stayed on the Oricon chart for a total of fourty-nine weeks. In all the album sold a total of 2,162,370 copies, making it the band's best selling album. The album is the 66th best selling album in Japan.
Soon after the album's release, the band went on tour to promote it. A recording of one of the concerts on the tour was later released on a video called, "THE POWER STADIUM DESTROY 97".
Track #10, "The Great Escape" was used as the title for the fan request best album released by the band in 2001.
