THE CHANGING SAME is Hirai Ken's third album. This is his first album since 1996's Stare At and since he begun his new R&B style. Hirai's 1997 single HEAT UP was not featured on this album. This album reached #1 on Oricon charts and charted for 18 weeks. As it sold 912,800 copies in 2000 it was the #18 album of the year. When this album was re-released on 2000.10.01 along with the rest of Hirai's back-catalogue, the album would reach #14 on Oricon charts and chart for 42 more weeks; selling an additional 352,496 copies. This brings the grand total copies of this album sold to 1,265,296.
