Should this be moved to Masamune Shirow? Wikipedia and Everything2 seem to think so.

Answer

No, do not move it, Shirow is occupied by a redirect, so if people search for it, they will come here. This is the correct romanization.

Um...

I was going to ask the same question... While Shiro may be the "correct" romanization, neither his eastern or western publishers seem to think so (at least, I've got a stack of Seishinsha tankubons & art books sitting next to me that seem to think the correct spelling is Shirow) I mention this only because in the 15 years or so I've been an obsessed fan of his, this is honestly the first time I've ever seen it spelled shiro... If his Japanese publishers and his western publishers all agree it's Shirow, why insist on Shiro?

Note: also, he quit teaching high-school loooooooooong before Ghost in the Shell (which was first serialzied in 89) He quit around the second book of Appleseed, if memory serves (the book might not be correct, but Appleseed was the work that he went full-time on)

Note 2: there's plenty of news about Appleseed book 5. It's yet uncomplete, but the published chapters have been released as a Tankubon in Japan, and have been serialized in the US in Super Manga Blast!, published by dark horse comics.

Note 3: Anipuma and Unipuma... Puma is the surname. Anna/Ani Unna/Uni whichever you prefer, but Puma is the surname, not the last half of thier first names...
