Shonen (genre)
From Wiki.theppn
Shonen or shounen (少年) is a Japanese word that means boy or teenager. The term is often used in the anime/manga world to refer to comic books for teenage boys between the ages 10 and 18. Shonen series tend to be action packed, with epic battles. There are shonen romance mangas such as Love Hina and Video Girl Ai, but these often have more fan service, then shojo romance series.
In the late 1990's the shonen series Dragon Ball Z became extremely popular in the United States. Now into the 21st century, with the English release of Shonen Jump, shonen series such as One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach have once again made the genre extremely popular. In Japan, shonen manga magazines are the best-selling.
The next age group of manga for older readers is called seinen. These series are generally for reader between the ages of 18 and 30. In the States, these series are often just lumped into the shonen genre.
