History
Morning Musume Sakura Gumi was formed in 2003 and consisted of eight of the fifteen members of Morning Musume at the time. The other seven members formed Morning Musume Otome Gumi. These two groups were formed in order to perform in smaller venues that could not support the fifteen member Morning Musume.
In addition to touring separately, both groups also released two singles that were very different from each other. Sakura Gumi's songs were slow ballads, and the group wore a lot of pink to support their image. "Sakura Gumi" means "Cherry Blossom Group", which may very well explain why the group wore much pink.
Both groups have been inactive since 2004. Although not credited, Sakura Gumi performed "Hare Ame Nochi Suki" at the Hello! Project 2007 Winter ~Shuuketsu! 10th Anniversary~ concert, except without Kago Ai (who was suspended) and Konno Asami (who graduated from Hello! Project).
