Muzai Moratorium is Shiina Ringo's debut album. This album reached a peak position of #2 on Oricon charts (under hitomi's h best album) and stayed on the charts for 78 weeks. It received the award for Rock Album of the Year. The album sold a total of 1,432,000 units in Japan.
The album was completely made up of stockpiled songs that Shiina had written prior to her debut. For the most part, they document Shiina's teenage life (except for Kabukichou no Joou, which was clearly not an autobiographical song). The songs on the album were performed by three groups of people that Shiina decided to form a band name around: six of the songs were performed by Zetsurin Hectopascal (絶倫ヘクトパスカル; Peerless Hectopascal), four of the songs were performed by Momoiro Spanner (桃色スパナ; Pink Spanner) and Marunouchi Sadistic was performed by Zekkyou Solfège (絶叫ソルフェージュ; Solfège Scream).
