History

Morning Musume Otome Gumi was formed in 2003 and consisted of seven of the fifteen members of Morning Musume at the time. The other eight members formed Morning Musume Sakura Gumi. These two groups were formed in order to perform in smaller venues that could not support the fifteen member Morning Musume.

In addition to touring separately, both groups also released two singles that were very different from each other. Otome Gumi's songs were fast-paced, in order to show the image of youth. "Otome Gumi" means "Young Girl Group", which was also supported by the fact that three of the four sixth generation members were placed in this group.

Both groups have been inactive since 2004. Although not credited, Otome Gumi performed "Ai no Sono ~Touch My Heart!~" at the Hello! Project 2007 Winter ~Shuuketsu! 10th Anniversary~ concert, except without Ogawa Makoto (who graduated from Morning Musume).
