Kawabe Chieco first started in the entertainment industry when she was 12 years old with the Theatre Academy, a talent agency. She starred in small CM roles and Drama's, then later gained recognition with her portrayal of Mizuno Ami in the Sera Myu stage musicals.

In 2002, Kawabe became an exclusive model for the Junior Fashion Magazine Love Berry. Soon afterwards her fame spiked gradually as she became a fan favorite of the readers. She was featured in the U-15 and Berry Smile photobooks, then released her solo photobook, 15 in 2002 and an idol DVD, Pop!.

Kawabe returned to the Sailor Moon universe in 2003, playing the role of Osaka Naru, Tsukino Usagi's best friend in the live action adaption of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. She went on to co-host the annual Music Express concert, then in April 2005 an announcement was made in Love Berry that she would no longer model for their magazine.

Music Career

Kawabe started to show her interest in singing at the annual Love Berry fashion shows where she would perform. In 2003 Chieco and fellow Love Berry model Oda Mizuho teamed up to form 156P and released the single 15 no Blues.

In 2004, Kawabe signed with VAP and released her debut single, "be your girl" on April 28th, 2004. The pop-rock song was used as the ending theme for the Elfen Lied anime and reached #67 on the Oricon chart and manged to stay there for three weeks. Kawabe's second single, "Shining! / cry baby" was released seven months after her debut single. With this release, she dropped to #157 on Oricon chart, only staying there for a week.

Kawabe's third single, "Kizunairo" was released two months later and was the first song she wrote herself. The single reached #150 on the Oricon chart and only charted for one week. Almost two months later brought the release of her debut album, "brilliance". The album barely cracked into the top 100, ranking in at #92 and charting for two weeks.

Four months after the release of "brilliance" she released her fourth single "Candy Baby / Mama Made". The single did not rank on the Oricon charts. Kawabe stayed quiet for several months before she announced any new music, as she was enrolled in Asia University from April 2005. On July 26th, 2006 Chieco released her fifth single, "Sakura Kiss". The song was used as the opening song for the Ouran High School Host Club anime. This tie-up helped make the single her best selling release to date, reaching #71 on Oricon chart, and charting for six weeks.

Recent Activies

After "Sakura Kiss" Kawabe began studying English. Several of her blogs became bilingual, reflecting her progress. She also signed with the cuedrop agency and started her current blog called "CHIECO LABO." After her first blog was moved Kawabe began a separate English progress blog in early 2007. The final post was on December 24, 2007 with the entry announcing her "graduation" and how she would no longer update her English progress blog.

Kawabe's current activities include being a radio host on shows such as Countdown Japan and actively posting in two blogs: one about food called "Kawabe Chieco no Oichi Restaurant," and her blog with her agency "CHIECO LABO." Kawabe also is involved as an instructor at an exercise salon called Studio Body Design, backed by her agency cuedrop. It is unknown whether Kawabe will continue her singing career, though in recent months she posted new modeling images of herself on her blog.
