KARA is a Korean girl group that debuted March 2007, around the same time as Wonder Girls, Cats, and Baby V.O.X Re.V. KARA's name means "sweet melody" in Greek, and it was leader, Park Gyuri's idea. The girl group was expected to have major success in the Korean Music Industry due to its pretty faces and great vocals. They were known to be the next FinKL. Currently, they are promoting their mini-album due in July 2008.

History

KARA is a Korean girl group that is under Daesung aka DSP Entertainment. They debuted in March 2007 with their debut album, "The First Blooming." During this time, the girls debuted at the same time as other girl groups such as Wonder Girls, Cats, and Baby V.O.X Re.V. It was thought that KARA would overshadow the others, because they were thought to be the "2nd FinKL." Later on, it seemed as if Wonder Girls, whom debuted a month before, and KARA were the only girl groups standing, because netizens often compared the two groups. Sadly, KARA was overshadowed by Wonder Girls' powerful management, JYP Entertainment, and their "Tell Me Syndrome." To make matters worse, SM Entertainment's 9-member girl group, So Nyuh Shi Dae, whom debuted in August, had a huge impact on Korea, and they were also promoted as heavily as the Wonder Girls. With DSP Entertainment's poor management since FinKL's disbandment, KARA fell back in the shadows and promotions died down for awhile. KARA, later, planned to come back on their feet and come back in 2008.

KARA, then, worked for six months on their second album, and scheduled for a comeback in mid-March 2008. It was said that they would come back with a mature image. Just as plans were going well, things also went well for KARA's lead vocal, Kim Sung Hee, who graduated from Goo Jung High School in early-February. Things got sour, however, when she failed her college entrance exams due to a hectic schedule and health issues dealing with stress. Because of this, Sung Hee's father, whom she promised that she would focus on her studies as well as singing duties, has stopped her from continuing to be a member of KARA. Park Gyuri, leader, and the other two girls definitely miss her. DSP announced that they will replace Sung Hee with two new members in a month. DSP is currently auditioning 2 new members for KARA. Due to this turn of events, the second album was scrapped and instead, there will be a mini-album in late July 2008.

They made their return from their hiatus on July 24th on the show MNET Countdown. They perfomed their new single "Rock U" which is one of the 5 tracks on their mini album entitled Rock U. Instead of the mature image, they returned with a refreshing, cute, and bubbly image. They also returned with 2 new members for the group. Gu Hara(17/18 in Korea) joins the group as the third oldest, being older than KARA's former maknae, Jung Nicole. The other new member is Kang Ji Young(14/15 in Korea) and she is now KARA's new maknae. Both members were trained for at least a month before KARA's comeback. Little is known on what the two new members offer to the group, but fans of KARA hope that they will do well in helping KARA achieve success. Although there are new members of the group, fans will never forget Sung Hee. They hope that she does come back to the music industry soon.
