Gekkou is Onitsuka Chihiro's second single, and was used as the dorama TRICK's theme song. The B-side Arrow of Pain was used as an insert song for the Japanese film GLOWING GROWING. This single peaked at #11 on Oricon charts and charted for 37 weeks. Throughout 2000, the single sold about 384,000 units, where in 2001 it sold a further 177,000 units (making this a total of 561,000 units). This single, due to its 384,000 units sold in 2000 became the #71 single of that year. This single also remains as Chihiro's most sold single.
Song Information
According to arranger Haketa Takefumi in the linear noted of the ultimate collection, there were three versions of Gekkou created. The first had a solo piano arrangement, the second a piano and string arrangement and the third a band arrangement. The piano and string backed version was decided to become the single version, and the piano solo version was relegated to being added onto Onitsuka's Insomnia album. The band version was discarded.
