Profile

History

Fujimoto Miki originally auditioned for Morning Musume's fourth generation in 2000. Although she didn't win, in early 2001, Fujimoto was contacted again and offered a chance to debut as a solo artist. After training for a little more than a year, she made her solo debut with her first single, "Aenai Nagai Nichiyoubi". According to her Morning Musume x Tsunku 2 interview, she worked as a receptionist at Hello! Project's agency, UP-FRONT WORKS, during her training period.

In 2002, Tsunku took Fujimoto along with two other Hello! Project soloists, Goto Maki and Matsuura Aya, to form the one-shot unit Gomattou, and their only single reached #1 on the Oricon charts.

After a successful performance on the Kouhaku Uta Gassen New Year's Eve music program, Tsunku made the surprise announcement in 2003 to add Fujimoto to Morning Musume as a part of the sixth generation, sidelining her solo career indefinitely. Fujimoto gradually became one of the main vocals of the singles. Later that same year, she was loaned to the Country Musume roster along with Konno Asami, going on to release three singles as a part of the group.

Fujimoto was added to the futsal team Gatas Brilhantes H.P. in February 2004.

Fujimoto became Morning Musume's sub-leader in April 2005, after Yoshizawa Hitomi became leader following Yaguchi Mari's resignation.

In late 2006, Fujimoto formed GAM along with Matsuura Aya. They went on to release three singles and one album, with their first concert tour beginning in May 2007.

After the graduation of Yoshizawa Hitomi on May 6, 2007, Fujimoto would become leader and Takahashi Ai would support her as sub-leader. However, on May 25, 2007, Fujimoto was revealed in FRIDAY magazine to have been dating Shouji Tomoharu, who is part of comedy duo Shinagawa Shouji. Fujimoto herself confirmed that the story is true in a radio interview within days of the story breaking. She resigned from Morning Musume on June 1, 2007, much like that of Yaguchi Mari's resignation.

Currently she remains in Hello! Project as a soloist. Immediately following her departure from Morning Musume, she continued to perform with Matsuura Aya on their first concert tour as GAM, but after that, GAM's status seemed to be unknown. Fujimoto did not perform in Hello! Project's 2007 Summer concert tour, and neither did she perform in Hello! Project's 2008 Winter concert tour. Her solo career resumed in February 2008, when it was announced that Fujimoto would release a new solo single "Japanese chanson-style" on April 23th entitled "Okitegami".
