Josei (女性; Woman) is a type of anime / manga, aimed at an older female auidence. The manga is usually written by a women, much like with shojo. Unlike shojo manga which is often fantasy based, josei mainly deals with realistic romance.
The equivalent type of male manga for this age group is called, seinen.
