Overview

C-Rock is short for Chinese rock music, which can be performed in any dialect of Chinese language, including Mandarin, Cantonese, Min Nan and Hokkien. C-Rock is less common than rock in other countries due to governmental policies, but over the last decade or two decades, the government has been gradually increasingly lenient on rock music, with more and more artists and bands coming out of the underground rock scene into mainstream popularity.

Just like the West and in Japan, Korea, etc. mainstream (non-underground) rock music singles are released. However, because of the growing trend of illegally downloading, file sharing and pirating, single sales are low and most singers rely on radio airplay and album sales for popularity and success.

There are different types and styles of C-Rock, such as

  • Alternative
  • Folk-rock
  • Grunge
  • Hard rock (usually influenced by Visual Kei)
  • Indie
  • Pop-rock
  • Punk
