"by myself" is the second album released by hitomi. There were three successful singles leading up to the album's release. The album reached #1 on the Oricon chart, hitomi's first album to do so. The album ended up staying on the chart for a total of twelve weeks. In all the album sold a total of 808,000 copies, making it hitomi's best selling album.
All the songs on the album had music and arrangements composed by Komuro Tetsuya.
