browneyed SOUL (브라운 아이드 소울) is a Korean R&B/Soul music male vocal quartet. The group consists of four members: Sung Hoon (성훈), Young Jun (영준), Jung Yub (정엽), and Na Ul (나얼) (former member of the R&B male-duo Brown Eyes).[1] They were originally managed by EMI music but have switched to MNET Media.

Information

Created after the disbandment of Brown Eyes, BES burst onto the scene with a very successful debut album, Soul Free, selling over 300,000 copies. Due to management conflicts, however, the group did not release a new album until years later (ultimately under a new label). Titled The Wind, The Sea, The Rain, the album featured vocal solos from each member of the group as well as four-part R&B and soul music.[2]

Na Ul released a solo album after the success of BES's debut album. Though Back To The Soul Flight primarily features solo numbers by Na Ul, it is listed on the official website as an album credited to browneyed SOUL.

The group appears to have a working relationship with Korean Rap and R&B group Dynamic Duo as members have been featured on each album.

Quotes from members describing their music:[3]

“Basically, we pursue soul – a genre of African-American roots. But we are not confined by certain genres. Instead, we are deeply attached to the lexical meaning of soul. Soul is the privilege that is unique to humans. We’d like to create music that can have a positive impact on people’s souls,” said Na Ul, 29.

“I hope people listen to our music with their hearts. This is not an album made from calculating this and that. You should listen to it with the heart, not the head,” said Sung Hun, 27.
