break the rules is the fourth album released by Amuro Namie. The album was only nine months after her third album, GENIUS 2000. On Amuro's previous album she worked with American producer Dallas Austin, but for this album Amuro worked once again with Komuro Tetsuya.
The album reached #2 on the Oricon chart and stayed on the chart for a total of eight weeks. This is Amuro Namie's first album not to reached the #1 spot on the Oricon. The album sold a total of 334,520 copies.
