Beautiful World / Kiss&Cry is Utada Hikaru's 19th Japanese-language single. Beautiful World is the theme song of the first of the Rebuild of Evangelion films called Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone (released on September 1, 2007); a film retelling of the first six episodes of the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime TV series, and has been described by Sanspo.com as an "uptempo but sadly-written song." Beautiful World debuted on radio stations in Japan on July 23rd, 2007. Kiss & Cry is the 2007 Nissin Cup Noodle FREEDOM CM song, much like Utada's first digital sales-only 2006 single, This Is Love. The song was first announced in late April and was released as a download at iTunes and other places on May 31, 2007, and would reach a #1 peak on iTunes' download charts. It also rapidly ascended into the Top 5 of the Chaku-Uta ringtone charts and has been downloaded 300,000 times for its first month of release there. Kiss & Cry would go on to recieve a double platnium certification for Chaku-Uta downloads from RIAJ. Beautiful World would recieve both a double platnium Chaku-Uta and a platnium Chaku-Uta Full certification from RIAJ. The third track, Fly Me To The Moon, is a different mix of the version featured on Utada's Wait & See ~Risk~ single, and was released for digital download on June 29, 2007. The song itself, Fly Me To The Moon, was used as the ending theme song for the original anime version of Neon Genesis Evangelion (sung by Hayashibara Megumi among others in the series). Beautiful World ranked #32 on Recochoku top 100 most downloaded songs of 2007 list. Kiss & Cry came in at #67 on the list. Beautiful World/Kiss & Cry sold a reported total of 229,547 copies in 2007, making it the #19 single of the year on Oricon.
