Akino is a defiantly original Japanese indie band made up of female singer akino, mizuno on guitar and piano and Tomohisa Sakamoto on bass. Akino's breathy vocals recall Kate Bush or Happy Rhodes, and the peppy keyboard work on their song "Wert" (sung in German) remind one of Flock of Seagulls or OMD. Akino released their first album 風見鶏日和 in January 1999 on their own indie Momo records label. This was followed by the album Opusquake in November 2002. They have also released a number of shorter EP's, and have gone on tours of the united States.
