"A" is the tenth single released by Hamasaki Ayumi, and is Ayumi's only quadruple a-side. Both "monochrome" and "Trauma" were used as commercial songs for JT Peach Water drinks. "too late" was used as the CM song for HONDA Giorno CREA. The remix "End roll "HAL's MIX"" was used as the CM song for Morinaga. There are six variations of the disc including a gold CD and gold cover version. The single reached #1 on the Oricon charts, it stayed at #1 for a total of three weeks, and spent a total of eighteen weeks on the charts. During its first week the single sold 508,940 copies, and has since sold a total of 1,630,540 copies, making this Ayumi's highest selling single.
