Biography

80_pan, formerly known as Harenchi☆Punch (ハレンチ☆パンチ), is a Victor Entertainment idol unit made out of three girls living in the Kansai area and led by Ogasawara Tomomi. They were discovered by popular Kyoto Information Magazine "Kyoto CD!" in the magazine's search for popular new idols, and debuted in 2004. Ogasawara, whose dream was to form a band and had been attending live houses as a band kid, announced to the group's producer, "We will become idols making genuine music!" Their brand of girls' rock beared similarities to that of artists such as Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson, and Hilary Duff, coupled with their cute voices and harmonies, gave them potential to be a success.

The name "Harenchi☆Punch" referred to the band's desire to punch out the lies and deceit in the world today and reform it to make it a better place. However, on March 26th, 2007, at one of the trio's events, Ogasawara announced that the group's name would change to "80★PAN!"

On September 14th, Ozora Saya announced her graduation from the group, which occurred October 8th, 2007.

On April 11th 2008, the group changed their name into 80_pan. They also announced a new album release, the first under their new name. The album includes collaborations with some UK artists - "I don't wanna go" is produced by Glaswegian dance-punks Shitdisco; and "Disco Baby" is written by Jon Falcone, bassist and songwriter with The Pipettes, and produced by Falcone along with Pipettes producer Andy Dragazis. In addition, Ogasawara wrote many of the lyrics on the album.

On June 20th 2008, 80_pan attempted to make their first foray abroad, playing live at The Metro on Oxford Street, London, as part of the music-industry festival London Calling. The new Japan/UK label Flightpath Records & Tours was involved in arranging this appearance. However, the two band members and two of their staff were held up at immigration and were sent back to Japan, causing them to be unable to perform in London.
